The college was granted permanent affiliation with the Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University in 2015. The college was established to improve access to higher education and develop the human resource of the region where most were first-generation learners who come from a disadvantaged socio-economic background. In a very short period of time, the college has become an integral part of the locality where regional talent can be nurtured.

Over the years, the college has shown significant progress in its capacity to provide quality education for the people of the region. Till the 2022-2023 academic session, under the CBCS system, the college offers six B.A. Honours courses and one B.A. Programme course. From the 2023-2024 academic session, under the NCCF system (NEP 2020), the college offers seven Major courses as per parent university guidelines. Apart from this, the college also offers a diverse range of skill enhancement opportunities.

Since the academic session of 2021-2022, keeping in mind the guidelines of the University Grants Commission and the newly introduced National Education Policy 2020, the college had begun to adapt and shape itself in accordance with the demands of the future as part of its desire to develop into an institution of note. Accordingly, the college introduced a number of add-on and value-added courses, increased opportunity for research work and improved integration of the curriculum with an understanding of its relation with Indian Knowledge Systems.

The ultimate goal of the college is to emerge as an institution of excellence which can contribute to the holistic development of the country by creating young scholars with both quality academic and professional orientation.
